Country Level Definitions

Level 1 countries are defined as countries with known active ore production which are not identified as plausible countries for export out of region, smuggling, or transit of conflict minerals.

Level 2A countries are defined as known or plausible countries for export out of region, smuggling, or transit of conflict minerals.

Level 2B countries are defined as the nine countries adjoining the DRC which have been outlined in section 1502 in the Dodd Frank Act.

Level 3 countries are defined as ore sources currently within conflict regions that are potentially supplying ore materials.

[1]The CFS assessment is valid for one year. If a Refiner applies for re-assessment before the one year anniversary, it will stay on the list until the completion of the assessment and determination of compliance with the protocol. If the refiner does not re-apply for re-assessment by the one year anniversary, it will be removed from the list until it is found to be compliant with the protocol.
